But what about cybersecurity, incident response and a culture of evidence? It's all about trains, signal boxes, power supply, doors, brakes, maintenance tools \u2013 the real \"metal and screws\" of railway operations.<\/p>\n<p>And yet, in almost every conversation, the same question arose:<\/p>\n<p>How do we keep operations stable when something goes wrong \u2013 in the midst of digitalisation?<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div class=\"vcex-spacing wpex-w-100 wpex-clear\" style=\"height:20px;\"><\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<h3><strong>Looking secure is not the same as operating securely<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">From day two onwards, we had a routine: coffee and biscuits at the IHK stand, then a tour of the halls. Many teams presented clean <strong>system architectures<\/strong>, firewalls in the right places, segmented networks.<\/p>\n<p>But when we asked:<\/p>\n<p>\"How do you actually respond to vulnerabilities in accordance with CRA?\"<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 there was silence. Hardly anyone had a clear communication process, let alone a plan for how to roll out a corresponding update securely afterwards. Most simply hoped that \"nothing would happen\". But in an emergency, a nice diagram is no help; what helps is a clear procedure: Who decides? Who communicates? How is the vulnerability closed (or at least mitigated)?<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">This very difference between <strong>\"looking secure\"<\/strong> and <strong>\"operating securely\"<\/strong> was a recurring theme throughout the entire trade fair.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div class=\"vcex-spacing wpex-w-100 wpex-clear\" style=\"height:20px;\"><\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<h3><strong>From ISO 27001 to IEC 62443: a culture of verification instead of trust<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">The tone changes when it comes to procurement.\nBuyers no longer ask for promises, but for reliable <strong>evidence<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">documented <strong>incident response plans<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>hardened builds<\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">verifiable <\/strong>security tests<strong> and <strong>audit results<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">maintained <strong>software bills of materials (SBOMs)<\/strong> throughout the entire lifecycle<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">In short: <em>no trust without evidence.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">ISO 27001 remains the foundation for a solid management system \u2013 but <strong>IEC 62443<\/strong> and <strong>CLC\/TS 50701<\/strong> translate security into <strong>technical implementation rules<\/strong>: segmentation, patch strategies, testing procedures, and incident management. Only the combination of both approaches makes railway technology truly <strong>cyber-resilient<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div class=\"vcex-spacing wpex-w-100 wpex-clear\" style=\"height:20px;\"><\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<h3><strong>AI in the railway sector: innovation without a safety net<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Artificial intelligence (AI) was also a topic of discussion \u2013 and here it became clear how quickly the market is advancing.\nMany manufacturers and operators are integrating AI into predictive maintenance, scheduling or energy optimisation. But rarely is the question asked of what happens when the algorithm is wrong.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">We saw impressive demonstrators, but hardly any solid <strong>risk analyses<\/strong>, <strong>fail-safe concepts<\/strong>, or clear responsibilities in case of malfunctions.<br>\nTerms like <strong>Explainable AI<\/strong>, <strong>AI safety<\/strong>, <strong>resistance to manipulation<\/strong>, or <strong>certifiability<\/strong> are usually mentioned only in passing \u2013 even though they will soon become key requirements under the <strong>NIS2 Directive<\/strong> and the <strong>EU Cyber Resilience Act<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In short, the railways are rapidly digitising, but they rarely test what happens when the 'intelligent' component fails.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div class=\"vcex-spacing wpex-w-100 wpex-clear\" style=\"height:20px;\"><\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<h3><strong>Global Rail 2025: New skyline, same questions<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">The <strong>Global Rail in Abu Dhabi<\/strong> brought the same topics \u2013 just with warmer temperatures.<br>\nMany great conversations, a strong sense of momentum.
