A major success for animal welfare:
A major success for animal welfare: On April 23, 2026, the Federal Administrative Court confirmed that previous conventional turkey farming practices violate Section 2 No. 1 of the German Animal Welfare Act.
The lawsuit was filed by the association Menschen für Tierrechte Baden-Württemberg e.V. After almost ten years of legal proceedings, it is now clear: authorities must enforce species-appropriate and behaviorally appropriate housing conditions — even without a specific turkey farming regulation.
The ruling is considered groundbreaking for farm animal husbandry throughout Germany.
